COVID19 has confined all including cricket players, team officials, cricket writers are cricket admirers at home like all others. With no cricket being played anywhere cricket family is spending time in teleconferences over zoom, face book live or any other virtual windows.
Some players and journalists are forming dream all time best teams. I have seen one such all such all time best Bangladesh test team prepared by one of the successful former captain and leading top order batsman and present member of BCB selection committee Habibul Bashar Sumon. His selection will definitely create some brain storming. Many will agree, many will differ. But it is only a dream team. This writer witnessed cricket at Dhaka stadium since 1959 and till 1982 did not miss much of the actions whether first division cricket, international matches. Have also followed Bangladesh team playing international cricket ever since. For the fun sake would like to propose another team and see how it fits against Sumon proposed team.
Team Sumon Proposed:
Tamim Iqubal Khan, Javed Omar Belim, Al Shahriar Rokon, Mushfiqur Rahim, Aminul Islam Bulbul (Captain), Shakib Al Hasan, Aftab Ahmed, Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafe bin Mortaza, Tapash Boissa and Shadat Hossain Rajib.
Sumon did not include himself, nor he considered Mohammad Ashraful or AbdurRazzak. Perhaps he was too modest.
For the sake of fun let me propose another team. My team will be for playing in all formats Test, ODI and T20. My team takes into consideration all players from 1972-2020. I have not included any players of Sumon proposed team as my team and summons team would play tests, ODIs and T20s
My Team: Imrul Kayes, Shariar Nafis, Omar Khaled Rumi, Habibul Bashar (Captain), Mohammad Ashraful, Mahmudullah Riad, Liton K Das, Abdur Razzak, Golam Nowsher Prince , Mustafizur Rahman and Nazrul Kader Lintu. 12th Man: Jahangir Shah Badsha
Imrul Kayes and Shahriar Nafis are in my opinion the most underrated batsman. I have seen how Shahriar Nafis batted superbly against a very strong Australian attack scoring a brilliant test century at Fatullah. No introduction is perhaps required for Kayes. In recent past he was perhaps the best opening partner of Tamim. Mohammad Ashraful must feature in any team of Bangladesh. Habibul Bashar himself is one of the best all time number 3 batsman. Liton will play as wicket keeping all rounder. Abdul Razzak and Nazrul Kader Lintu will take care of the spin attack. If required Riad will bowl a bit. Prince and Fiz will handle the new ball. Both are left handers and both swings the ball both sides at pace. Bangladesh will never get a better spinner than Lintu.
Dream teams are dream teams. We can organize a virtual series and can only dream such match happening.
