Power Play Set The Difference As Bangladesh Lost by 18 runs

ICC T20 (Women) World Cup-2020
Bangladesh Vs India Played at Perth

Brief Scorecard:

India 142 /6 ( Shefali Verma 39, JI Rodrigues 34, Veda Krishnamurty 20*, Salma Khatun 2/25, Panna Ghosh 2/25 ) beat Bangladesh 124/8 ( Farghna Haque 35, Murshida Khatun 30,Fatima Khatun 17, Poonam Yadav 3/18, S Pandey 2/14, A Reddy 2/33) by 18 runs.
Player of the Match: Shefali Verma

Bangladesh bowled poorly during bowling power play, wicket keeper dropped an important catch in the 18thover. These caused India reaching 142/6 in allotted overs. Given the context of the match it was 20 runs too many. Bangladesh despite of best efforts could go as far as 124 /8 losing by 18 runs.  Bangladesh also could not bat at all well against leg spinner PoonamYadav (3/18). Even then Bengal tigress showed positive spirit giving their 100% and went down fighting.

The difference of match was created from 53 runs scored by the Indian girls in the first six overs. 16 years old teenager Shefali Verma blasted 39 runs of only 17 deliveries before she was removed by Panna Ghosh. Her innings featured four huge sixes and two strikes across. His partnership of quick 37 with Rodrigues made a huge difference. Bangladesh however recovered appreciably as the spinners bowled appreciably and fielders showed lot of energy. Till the end of 17th over, Indian score of 114/6 was within reachable distance. But a flamboyant 20 off only 11 deliveries by Veda Krisnamurthy and 28 runs in the last 3 overs took the match away from Bengal tigress.

On the other hand Indian bowling was pretty tight. Wickets fell at regular interval. By 11th over Bangladesh could reach 3/61. But with the introduction of leg spin of Poonam Yadav girls lost their way. Farghana (35) and Murshida (30) at the top could set the foundation but late middle order could not maintain the tempo. Bangladesh lost by 18 runs.

Even in this loss there were few positives. Bangladesh in the middle overs bowled and fielded exceptionally well. If the wicket keeper could hold a simple catch offered by Pandey of the bowling of Salma in the 19th over it could make a difference. Girls gave a good account of themselves. If they can keep up the momentum they won’t disgrace against Australia, New Zealand and Srri Lanka.
