If ever Bangladesh Cricket team felt homely away from home it would be at Cricket Haven Eden Gardens. 11 Bangla speaking Bangladeshis would lock horn with fabulous Indians in a city where majority speaks Bangla. People admire and adore Bangladeshis. Avisek Dalmia son of deceased Indian Maestro Jag Mohan Dalmia rightly said it is a match between home team against home team. Bangladesh will play with Bengali flavor and fervor. The historic first day night test match featuring two friendly neighbors of South Asia will have plenty of elements in the city of joy.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will witness Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and Governor of Bengal Mamata Banarjee would ring the bell as the match starts. Among the spectators would be players of both India and Bangladesh who played the first ever test match between the two teams (the first test of Bangladesh after getting ICC Test Playing status) at Bangabandhu stadium in Dhaka. As a matter of coincidence Shaurav Ganguly, present BCCI President captained India. He has designed this mega event where all living Indian cricket captains of the past would grace the occasion. Indian Captains of the past would move around the ground at tea break. Famous International singers Runa Laila and Jeet Ganguly would let out their melodious voice in the evening. It will be a pink ball test. The city of joy has already assumed pink ambience.
It may be recalled that in 1998 late Jagmohan Dalmia was ICC chief when Bangladesh got full ICC membership. India played a major role as some leading member countries are opposing. Present Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina was also Prime Minister at that time. Saber Hossian Chowdhury was BCB President. It would be a moment of nostalgia for Sheikh Hasina and Dalmiya family watching Bengal tigers appearing in the city of Jagmohan and Sourav Ganguly against strong India. Does not matter whether the pink ball swings more. Does not matter the match stretches to its limit five days or not. It is going to be a historic match which cricket admirers around the world would cherish.Bangladesh must not get over awed on the occasion. Hope team tigers will hold on composure, keep cool and commit themselves. Any small achievement would be written in letters of gold as big army of Bangla writing sports journalists would be there. The pink tides of two Bengals would meet on the cross road. Cricket is bound to win.
We sincerely hope that 11 brave tigers would leave nothing unturned to make Bangladesh and Bangladeshis proud. The count down for the grand moment has started. Hundreds and thousands from Bangladesh has already left for the city of joy which once also sheltered millions of Bangladeshis in 1971 .What an occasion of remembrance!
Eden Gardens is truly home away from home for team tigers - “GHORER CHELERA KHELBEY PORSHEER ANGINAY.”
