1st Youth ODI: Bangladesh beat NZ by 6 wickets

DHAKA: Bangladesh under-19s clinched a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first Youth ODI at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln, New Zealand on Sunday (Sep 29).

Earlier, NZ youths have won the toss and elected to bat first early in the morning. Then, Bangladesh bundled out hosts after scoring 176 runs at the end of the 48th over. 

Shoriful Islam and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury bagged three wickets each while Shamim Hossain scalped two wickets and Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Rakibul Hasan picked up one each.     

Chasing the moderate target, with the help of captain’s knock of Akber Ali, young tigers have won by six wickets with 68 balls remaining. 

Akber Ali scored 65 off 61 balls while Shahadat Hossain contributed 24,  Tanzid 28, Mahmudul Hasan Joy 28 and Towhid Hridoy (26) in the teams’ winning momentum.

With this win, Bangladesh Under-19s led the 5-match series 1-0.

The second match of the series will be held on October 2.
