Amla second fastest to 8000 ODI runs

DHAKA: Hashim Amla became the second fastest to 8000 runs off 176 innings, with Virat Kohli being the quickest off 175 innings.

The opener reached the milestone during South Africa's World Cup match against New Zealand in Birmingham on Wednesday.

He became the fourth South African batsman to reach 8000 runs in ODI cricket.   Interestingly, Amla was the quickest from 2000-7000 ODI runs.

Coming into the match, Amla needed 24 runs as he became the fourth South African batsman after Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers and Herschelle Gibbs to enter the 8k club.

Amla had to sit out the second match of the tournament after taking a knock on the helmet in South Africa's opener against England. 

In the last three matches, he had scores of 13, 6 and 41.
