DHAKA: BNP-backed mayoral contestant for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Tabith Awal submitted his nomination paper to the returning officer on Tuesday (Dec 31).

Tabith Awal accompanied by some BNP leaders reached the DNCC returning officer’s office in the capital's Agargaon at noon and submitted the nomination paper to returning officer Abul Kashem to contest the DNCC mayoral polls, slated to be held on January 30 in 2020.

According to the Election Commission (EC), December 31 is the last date for submission of nomination papers and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 9.

The EC will scrutinize nomination papers on January 2.
