JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: A group of teachers and students under the banner of ‘Jahangirnagar Against Corruption’ continued demonstration on Wednesday (Nov 13) demanding removal of Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam.

They took out a procession from the Murad Chattar around 1:30pm and marched through the campus before holding a rally in front of the old administrative building.

Chhatra Union leader Oliur Rahman Sun said their “peaceful and logical demonstration” was attacked but it could not be stopped even after the authorities closed the halls.

The VC should resign not only for corruption but also for the current situation, he added.

Prof Kamrul Ahsan of philosophy department said the movement is to save the university.

He said: “The VC closed the university out of fear.  But protests will resume when the university will open…. The government should look into it and help the university operate smoothly.”

Prof Raihan Rhyne, coordinator of the protest, said they had been carrying out their movement.  But government lacks goodwill as no probe body has been formed yet.
