Jail killing: Efforts on to bring back fugitive killers any time

DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said efforts were underway to bring the killers of the four national leaders who fled abroad back to home and try them under the laws of the country.

He said this after paying homage to a portrait of four national leaders at the old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in the capital on Sunday (Nov 3).

The home minister said the killers who fled abroad are not under the law of our country. According to the laws of the country in which they reside, they must be extradited. Negotiations are taking place with those countries about bringing the accused back.

He said, “Not only the murderers of four national leaders, Bangabandhu killers and August 21 grenade attack accused have fled to different countries. We are trying to identify all of them and bring them back home. They will be brought back at any time”.

Regarding the demands of the families of the victims to bring the mastermind of the killings under trial, Asaduzzaman Khan said, “The demands they made will be judged according to the law. We are working according to the list that has come to the Home Ministry. Once the demand has been placed, we will start working on it”.

Earlier, Home Minister and Awami League leaders paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the morning. They then participated in the Milad Mahfil arranged by jail authority after paying tribute to the portraits of the four national leaders.
