UP member dies at Tangail polling station Azharul Islam Raza

TANGAIL: A Union Parishad (UP) member died after suffering ‘sudden cardiac arrest’ while performing duty at a polling station in Sakhipur upazila of the district.

The incident happened at Jugirkotha Purbapara polling center on Sunday morning (March 31).

42-year-old Azharul Islam Raza was working as an agent for boat symbol.

He was an UP member of ward no-3 under Baheratail union of the upazila.

“Azharul Islam Raza became sick after one hour of the start of voting. He was rushed to Sakhipur upazila Health Complex, but doctors declared him dead,” Presiding officer at Jugirkotha Purbpara polling station Perth Swarthi Goswami told Banglanews.

The body was handed over to the family from the hospital, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aminur Rahman told Banglanews.
