DHAKA: The High Court has ordered to halt the upazila election in Dumuria upazila of Khulna, which was scheduled to be held on March 31 (Sunday).

A HC bench passed the order on Wednesday (March 27) after hearing writ petition filed by AL nominated candidate Shahnewaz Hossian Joarder. 
 
Petitioner’s lawyer Arif Moeenuddin Chowdhury said returning officer allocated boat, the electoral symbol of Awami League, to Mostafa Sarwar instead of AL nominated candidate.  The deprived leader, later, appealed to the RO but he did not dispose of the appeal.

Later, AL nominated candidate filed a writ petition over the inactiveness of RO.

Today, the HC halted the polls till April 10 and asked the election commission to dispose of the appeal within April 3.
