Khaleda reluctant to go to BSMMU

DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who has been behind the bars for more than a year, has expressed her unwillingness to go to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital for treatment.

BSMMU hospital authority on Sunday (Mar 10) took necessary measures for receiving her following direction from the authority of Old Central Jail in Nazimuddin Road.

Afterwards, BSMMU director Brig Gen Md Abdullah-Al-Harun was informed about the BNP chief’s disagreement to go there.

Jailor Mahbubul Islam of Dhaka Old Central Jail confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

“But, she has expressed reluctance to go to the hospital,” he said.

However, as the preparations were underway, additional law enforcers were also deployed on the way from Nazimuddin Road to BSMMU.

Khaleda Zia was jailed for five years in a graft case in Feb, 2018.

She has been suffering various physical illnesses since earlier.

On Mar 5, after a meeting with a BNP team, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the BNP chairperson will be taken BSMMU for medical checkup and tests.
