Quader to undergo bypass surgery when infection cured

DHAKA: Doctors at Singapore hospital said Bangladesh minister Obaidul Quader will undergo a bypass surgery few days later as they diagnosed some infections and kidney problems on him.

A five-member medical broad formed for the treatment of Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, where he was taken to on Monday (Mar 4) for better treatment, said Prof Abu Nasar Rizvi, director (planning and development) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

Health condition of Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, stabilized and is improving gradually, said the medical board after diagnosing him and examining the test reports. 

The board led by Cardiologist Dr Philip Koh, Senior consultant of interventional Cardiology department of the hospital briefed the development about Obaidul Quader’s treatment on Tuesday (Mar 5) noon. 

A five-member medical broad, led by Cardiologist Dr Philip Koh, was formed for the treatment of minister Obaidul Quader, said Professor Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi, in a video clipping, quoting Dr Philip.

According to the video, Obaidul Qauder’s condition stabilized. Doctors here diagnosed infection, kidney problem to the minister. When the infection, kidney problems come under control, they are thinking for the bypass surgery. 

The medical board will also hold another briefing on the minister’s health status on Wednesday (Mar 6), he added. 

Doctors started treatment of Quader immediately after the air ambulance of Mount Elizabeth Hospital carrying him reached the hospital around 8:15pm, Biplob Barua told Banglanews on Tuesday (Mar 5).

He is now undergoing treatment under supervision Cardiologist Dr Philip Koh, Senior consultant of interventional Cardiology department. 

Critically ill Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was taken to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on Monday (Mar 4) night. 

Earlier in the day, an air ambulance carrying ailing Obaidul Quader left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for Singapore around 4:07pm.

The minister who had been undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital since early Sunday (Mar 2) was taken to Singapore as per advice of World renowned cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty.

Earlier, a special ambulance with Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) facilities carrying Quader left BSMMU around 3:15pm for Shahjalal International Airport.

World renowned cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty arrived in Dhaka around 1pm from Bangaluru via Kolkata of India and reached the BSMMU around 1:30pm for the treatment of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was admitted to the Critical Coronary Unit (CCU) of BSMMU Hospital Sunday (Mar 3) morning after he felt breathing problems and chest pain.

He was diagnosed with three blockages coronary arteries and one of those has been removed by stenting.
