DHAKA: Voting to 129 upazilas in upcoming fifth Upazila Council Elections will be held on March 18 in second phase. 

According to the election schedule, the deadline for the submission of nominations is February 18. While the date for nomination scrutiny is February 20, the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is February 27 and the voting day is March 18.

Election Commission Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced the election schedule at a press conference on Thursday (Feb 7) afternoon. 

In this phase, the voting will be held upazilas in one district each from five divisions, the EC secretary added.

Asked about the use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in upcoming upazila polls, Helal Uddin Ahmed replied that rules to use EVM in upazila election have been sent to Ministry of Law for vetting. After getting approval, the Election Commission will take decision in this regard through meeting.

EVM will not be used in the first phase upazila council elections, slated for March 10
