LAKSHMIPUR: A district court granted bail to BNP Publicity Affairs Secretary and former lawmaker Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie in a case filed over a clash during the national elections campaign. 

Annie appeared before Lakshmipur District & Sessions Judge Court and pleaded for bail, on Tuesday (Jan 22) morning.

Judge Md Shahe Nur granted the plea. 

Annie’s lawyer Advocate Hasibur Rahman Hasib confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Annie contested the parliamentary elections for Lakshmipur-3 constituency from Oikyafront. He reportedly survived an attack during a publicity campaign at Shantirhat Bazar area under Kushakhali union of Lakshmipur sadar upazila on Dec 24.

Two policemen, 25 BNP activists and six Awami League activists were injured as a clash among the supporters of Awami League and BNP erupted. 

Kushakhali UP Chairman Awami League leader Nurul Amin, as a plaintiff, filed a case with Chandraganj Police Station on Dec 25.

Annie, his brother Happy Chowdhury and 146 leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies were accused in the case. More than 200 unnamed men were also sued.

On Dec 26, they were granted bail for four weeks after Annie appeared before the High Court and pleaded for bail.
