Ershad quits election race in Dhaka-17

DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad quit the election race in Dhaka-17 constituency for the ruling party candidate.

He declared his decision at an urgent press conference at his Baridhara residence on Thursday (Dec 27) and extended his support to Awami League’s candidate, ex-film star Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque.

However, HM Ershad is vying the election from Rangpur-3 constituency in the 11th Parliamentary Election, slated for December 30.

Earlier on Wednesday (Dec 26), HM Ershad has returned home after receiving treatment in Singapore.

Apart from Ershad, Raushan Ershad on December 12 stepped down from the election race from Mymensingh-7 constituency for Awami league candidate Ruhul Amin Madani.
