BNP wants dialogue

DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed deep concern over future of democracy in Bangladesh.

“We want talks, but it has to be on Non-party Government issue,” he added.

He came up with the observation to the journalists after placing wreaths to the grave of former President Ziaur Rahman with the leaders and activists of Jatiyotabadi Mohila Dol on Monday.

Mirza Fakhrul said, “UN secretary general Ban-Ki Moon phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. But there is no development on the issue.”

“99 percent people of the country want a free and fair election with participation of all political parties,” he added.

Criticizing the recent remark of Sheikh Hasina, he again said: “The government instigating opposition and itself creating unrest.”

At that time, central president of Mohila Dol Nure Ara Safa, general secretary Shirin Sultana and other leaders and activists were present.
