Nizami sent to jail after latest remand

DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami was Tuesday sent back to jail after his latest remand in a case filed under the anti-terrorism act with Kadamtali police station, one of a number of cases he and his party colleagues are facing.

Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Emdadul Haque passed the order for sending him back to jail as the investigating officer of the case produced the Jamaat chief and ex-minister before the court after the three-day remand.

The court rejected his bail petition filed by his lawyer advocate Abdur Razzak.

Earlier on July 23, Nizami, his party Secretary-General Ali Ahasan Mohammad Mojaheed and Nayeb-e Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee were shown arrested in the case filed with Kadamtali thana on May 23.

The Jamaat bigwigs were arrested on June 29 on a charge of hurting religious sentiments. They have later been implicated in several charges, including ‘crime against humanity’ during the 1971 liberation war.
