DelwarÔÇÖs remarks old manÔÇÖs fits of delirium: Syed Ashraf

DHAKA: Ruling party’s general secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam dismissed opposition BNP leader Khandaker Delwar Hossain’s remarks over Bangabandhu as an “old man’s fits of delirium”.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Syed Ashraf made the comment a day after Delwar Hossain said that the government should amend the Constitution bearing in mind whether or not the people would accept Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as father of the nation.

Ashraf said that Delwar’s speech was nothing but a bid to distort the national history.

“Delwar is now lagging behind in the party and desperately trying to come to the forefront by giving such speech as is devoid of ‘political nicety’,” he said.

The AL leader reminded that Bangabandhu led the nation for independence and proclaimed the independence. “He is the father of the nation and creator of Bangladesh.”

“BNP didn’t take lesson from the past. Now they are creating debate over historically resolved issues,” he said.

That was why the people had ditched them in the last election, added the Minister.

He asked BNP to change their attitude and take lessons from the history.
