DHAKA: Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday accused the government of pushing the country into anarchy by restoring secularism and socialism in the Constitution.

“Bangladesh is the third largest Islamic country in the world with 90 percent Muslim population. It is impossible to think that there will be no religion-based politics,” acting Ameer of Jamaat Makbul Ahmad said.

He was addressing the national working committee meeting Friday at Magabazar central office in the city.

He said the government was trying to push the country backward by eliminating Islamic politics, economics, education and culture from the country.

The government’s position was the major obstacle to development and progress of the countruy, he said.
