‘Drug peddler’ was killed Teknaf ‘gunfight’

COX'S BAZAR: A suspected drug peddler was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Whykang Dailkhal Par area of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday (Jan 26) morning.

The deceased was identified as Nasir, 30, son of Jalal Ahmmed, hailing from Whykang Purbo Satghariapara of the upazila.

Teknaf Police Station OC (officer-in-charge) Pradip Kumar Das told Banglanews that law enforcers arrested Nasir in front of Teknaf Nhilla Girls School on Saturday night.

Based on his information, police launched drives at Daikhalpar area in the night. Sensing presence of law enforcers, Nasir’s associates opened fire on police forcing them to fire back in self defence, triggering a gunfight.

Later, police recovered bullet-hit Nasir and took him to Upazila Health Complex. Later he was shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead, the OC added.

Three police members-- sub-inspector Ohid Ullah, Constable Abdur Shuukur and Md Hela--were injured in the gunfight, Pradip Kumar claimed.

Around 10,000 pieces of Yaba, 3 local made weapons, 12 rounds of cartridges were recovered from the spot, the OC said.
