FARIDPUR: An accused of a rape and murder case was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Faridpur early Monday (Dec 16).

The deceased was identified as Yeasin, 22, son of Moni Sheikh in Wireless Para area of the district town.

According to police, Yeasin was one of the accused in the rape and murder case of disabled girl Fatema. He was also accused in several other cases.

Additional SP Rashedul islam told Banglanews that the gunfight took place around 2:00 am on Monday in Rothkhola Launchghat bridge area. Three members of law enforcement were also injured in the gunfight.

After monitoring a video footage, a team of police arrested Yeasin. Later police along with him were on way to the spot to collect evidence of murder and rape. Suddenly, Yeasin snatched an arm from a policeman and opened fire on them. Police fired back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Yeasin dead on the spot, the SP said.
