No salt crisis, don’t pay heed to rumors

DHAKA: The government urged all not to be misled by rumors about ongoing salt crisis getting across the country.

Bangladesh Small & Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) issued a release in this regard on Tuesday (November 19).

It is evident that an unscrupulous group is making vein attempts to destabilize salt price in order to make quick profit by spreading rumors, the release said adding that there is no shortage of salt, making people aware of rumor.

At present, 6.50 lakh metric tones of salt are in stock. The country saw record salt production in 2018-2019 fiscal year – 12.24 lakh metric tonnes - which was much higher than the target.

The release also said the country achieved self-sufficiency in salt production due to hard work of the salt farmers and government’s policy support.

A control room has been opened at the BSCIC headquarters (Phone No: 02-9573505) for salt-related all information.
