No fuel to unfit vehicles: HC

DHAKA: The High Court has directed filling stations not to fueling vehicles if fitness certificates are not renewed.

Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam on Wednesday (October 23) passed the order passed the order after hearing reports submitted by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on renewal of the fitness certificates.

Lawyers Moin Firozi and Rafiul Islam moved for the BRTA. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik, Assistant Attorney General Helena Begum stood for the state.

Later, Moin Firozi said that the court ordered fuel sales to unfit vehicles until fitness certificates are renewed. 

If any vehicles fail to renew to fitness certificates in the next two months or so, then this order will be effective, he added.

The HC also fixed January 10 for passing further order on the issue.

The court also ordered the law enforcers to strictly monitor so that filling stations do not supply fuel to the vehicles without valid fitness documents.
