‘Robber’ killed in Habiganj ‘gunfight’

HABIGANJ: A suspected robber was killed during a reported gunfight with detectives in Shayestaganj upazila early on Tuesday (Oct 15).

The deceased was identified as Kudrat Ali, 40, of Nizampur union in Sadar upazila of Habiganj.

Mozammel Haque, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shayestaganj Police Station, told Banglanews that being tipped off, some criminals were preparing for committing robbery on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Purashudha area, a team of DB police reached the area.

Sensing presence of lawmen, the suspected robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back. 

Kudrat’s bullet-hit body found lying on the spot and four police officials suffered injuries after the gunfight.

Kudrat was a listed criminal and had 13 criminal cases against him in different police stations of Habiganj, the OC added.

One pipe gun and locally made firearms were recovered from the spot and four DB officials were injured during the gunfight.
