Metro rail commercial operation by Dec 2021

DHAKA: Metro rail will go into commercial operation by December of 2021, according to a review meeting on the progress of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), popularly known as metro rail.

A power point presentation on overall progress of the implementation of the mega scheme was given at Ganabhaban of the capital having Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair on Monday (September 16).

Construction work is going on rapidly. Managing Director of the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Company (DMTCL) MAN Siddique presented the power point presentation.

He projected the progress of MRT Line 6 as well as MRT Line 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 through the power point presentation.

It was informed at the review meeting that overall progress of the works of the MRT Line-6 (Uttara-Agargaon-Motijheel) till August was 30 percent.

About 46 percent works of the Uttara-Agargaon part and 24 percent works of the Agargaon-Motijheel part of the MRT Line-6 have so far been completed.

MP Shahjahan Khan, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Najibur Rahman, Secretary to the Prime Minister's Office Sajjadul Hasan, Secretary to the Department of Road Transport and Highways also Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Chairman Nazrul Islam, Secretary to Defense Ministry Akhtar Hossain Bhuiyan, Chief Executive Officer of the National Security Cell, former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Asaduzzaman Mia, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
