Dinajpur housewife poisoned to death over dowry

DINAJPUR: A housewife was put to death by means of poisoning allegedly by her in-laws for not getting dowry in Kaharole upazila of the district. 

18-year-old Akhi Moni breathed her last at M Abdur Rahim Medical College and Hospital around 11 pm on Thursday (September 12).

Prior to this hospital, she was first treated at Bochaganj Upazila Health Complex on Thursday evening.

Akhi Moni, daughter of Abbas Ali, was a resident of Mahatabpur Mangolpur village under Biral upazila.

Abbas Ali filed a complaint against his son-in-law Ramjan Ali and Ramjan Ali’s parents with Kaharole police station.

“No complaint has been made yet. If received, legal action will be taken after investigation,” Ayuib Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaharole police station, told Banglanews.

Abbas Ali said Ramzan got married twice and divorced before marrying his daughter.

“He eloped with my daughter and married her 2 years ago alluring her that he was doing a job of a handsome salary in Dhaka,” Abbas Ali also said.

“They had been torturing my daughter for dowry of Taka 80, 000,” he added.
