COX'S BAZAR: Two suspected Rohingya drug dealers were killed in a reported shootout with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar at early hours of Thursday (August 22).

They were identified as Md Saker, 22 from Kutupalong camp and Nur Alam, 30, from Muchni camp of Rohingyas.

BGB said two of their members were injured in the incident.

A BGB team launched a drive on tip-off that a yaba consignment was entering Bangladesh through Katakhal of Naf River beside Howaikong-Ulubunia village, said Teknaf-2 BGB Deputy Commander Maj Shariful Islam Jomadder.

The drug dealers opened fire at the BGB members as a boat coming toward Katakhal was challenged by the law enforcers.

The BGB members fired back, in retaliation.

As the shootout ended, two bodies and 50,000 piece yaba pills, a locally made gun, three rounds of bullet and two falchions were recovered from the spot.

However, the bodies will be sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies, said the BGB deputy commander.
