2 ‘drug dealers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: Two suspected drug peddlers, including a Rohingya man, were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of the district on Wednesday (July 24).

The gunfight took place at Hinla area close to Naf River at dawn.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kamal, 22, son of Mohammad Islam of Balukhali camp, and Habibur Rahman, son of Abul Shama of Nayapara in Teknaf.

BGB members recovered 1, 00,000 contraband yaba pills and a locally-made gun from the spot. 

After being informed that a yaba consignment was about to be brought into the country through the border point, a BGB team raided the area. At that time, BGB team noticed some people crossing the Naf River. The team told them to freeze, but the men opened fire on them. In self defense, BGB also fired bullets. Later, two bodies were recovered from the spot, Director of Teknaf-2 BGB Lt. Col. Faisal Hasan Khan told Banglanews.

Three BGB members were also injured in the incident.
