13 get life term for double murder

FARIDPUR: A court here on Wednesday (June 19) sentenced thirteen people to life imprisonment for killing two people in Saltha upazila in 2003. 

After examining the records and witnesses, Faridpur Special Judge Court judge Md Motiar Rahman handed down the verdict.

Faridpur Special Judge Court’s public prosecutor (PP) Advocate Golam Rabbani Babu Mridha confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

The lifers include Afsar Fakir, Mannan Khan, Surman Khan, Majed Khan, Wajed Khan, Rashed Khan, Siddique Fakir, Fazlu Fakir, Rahman Kha, Rezaul Khan and Osman Fakir.

According to the prosecution, convicts hacked Ganjor Khan and Mosa Mollah to death following an altercation in an arbitration meeting at Notkhola village in the upazila on December 23, 2003.

Later, Alal Mina, relative of the deceased, filed a murder case with Saltha Police Station accusing 27 people.

After examining the records and witnesses for a long period, the court today sentenced thirteen people to life imprisonment and acquitted 14 others from the murder case. 

Of the convicts, eleven were present at the courtroom during pronouncement of the judgment while two others are on the run.
