PANCHAGARH: Authorities have started dredging the once mighty Buri Teesta river in its Debiganj part in Panchagarh, vowing to redeem its flow.
Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan launched the dredging work in Ramganj Bilashi area of Debiganj upazila Saturday (May 18).
Water Development Board-Rangpur (North Zone) Chief Engineer Jyoti Prakash Ghosh, Debiganj Upzila Chairman Abdul Malek Chishti and UNO Prottoy Hasan, among others, attended the occasion chaired by Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sabina Yasmin.
Sources from Water Development Board said that 20km of the Indo-Bangla Buri Teesta will be excavated of its total 24km Bangladesh part.
Water Development Board-Panchargarh is implementing the excavation work at a cost of Tk 7.13 crore, under a state project of re-excavating water bodies in 64 districts.
