RAJSHAHI:  Eight persons have been awarded life in prison for killing three police personnel in Bera upazila of Pabna.

Judge Anup Kumar Jonakirno of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi also acquitted three accused in the case on Wednesday (April 24).

“A total of 15 people were accused in the case, in which 4 of them were killed in last year’s cross fire. Out of the rest 11, 8 were given rigorous life imprisonment. Three accused were acquitted as allegations did not prove. Two convicts are on the run,” advocate Entazul Haque Babu, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Rajshahi, told Banglanews.

Three police personnel were killed by extremists of Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party in Bera upazila of Pabna on July 20 of 2010.

The deceased were identified as Sub-Inspector Kafil Uddin, 50, Nayek Wahed Ali, 35 and Constable Shafiqul Islam, 35.
