PM’s cousin Sheikh Selim’s grandson killed in Sri Lanka blasts

DHAKA: Minor grandson of Awami League leader Sheikh Selim, cousin of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was among 290 people killed on Easter Sunday’s multiple blasts in Sri Lanka.

Moshiul Haque Chowdhary Prince, son-in-law of Sheikh Selim, also was among hundreds of injured in the series of blasts at churches and hotels in and just outside Sri Lanka's capital, said PM Sheikh Hasina while speaking at a reception in Brunei on Sunday (April 21) night.

Initially, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that two Bangladeshis had been missing since the blasts but did not reveal their identity.

The son-in-law and Zayan Chowdhary, grandson of Sheikh Selim, were at a restaurant when a bomb exploded there.

Sheikh Amina Sultana Sonia, mother of Zayan and his younger brother Zohan Chowdhary were in their hotel room during the blast. The family went to Sri Lanka on a holiday tour.

PM Hasina also urged people to pray for the family members.
