DHAKA: A bus service, to run around Dhanmondi, New Market and Azimpur, will be launched on March 26.
A coordination meeting of bus route rationalization held at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) took the decision, with Mayor Sayeed Khokon in the chair Wednesday (March 20).
Some 20-25 buses of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will run on the circular route. As many as 36 spots will be created where the buses will wait for a specific time to take passengers, Sayeed Khokon told media after the meeting.
Bus fare on the route will be fixed as per the BRTC rule. Unfit and expired vehicles will be removed in phases, he added.
The circular bus service is being introduced as part of bringing discipline on the roads, added the mayor.
Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) will provide necessary space for the drivers’ training, Sayeed Khokon said further.
Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association Secretary General Enayet Ullah, Rajuk Chairman Abdur Rahman and Bangladesh Sramik Federation General Secretary Osman Ali, among others, took part in the meeting.
