‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: A suspected drug trader was killed in a "gunfight" between law enforcers and a gang of drag traders in Teknaf upazila of the district early on Tuesday (Mar 19)

The deceased was identified as Yeasin Ahmed, 25, son of Abdul Jalil of Habir chara area in Teknaf sadar.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Taknaf Model Police Station, said law enforcers picked up Yeasin along with some yaba pills few days ago. 

Following Yeasin’s statement, a team of police took him to Habir Chora area of Teknaf around 1:00am to recover drugs and firearms, he added.

Sensing the presence of police, Yusuf’s cohorts opened "gunshots" at police officials, forcing them to retaliate. After the exchange of "gunshots", police found Yeasin was shot to death, the OC claimed.

Later, the body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Three police officials were also injured in the "gunfight," police said.

Police recovered 10,000 yaba tablets, two firearms and nine rounds bullets from the spot.
