NOAKHALI:  BNP Joint Secretary General Mahbub Uddin Khokon was injured with buckshot during clashes between Awami League and BNP supporters in Sonaimuri upazila of the district.  

Barrister Khokon, also BNP candidate for Noakhali-1 constituency, was rushed to Noakhali General Hospital after injury.

The incident happened during an election campaign around 5 pm on Saturday (December 15).

Speaking to Banglanews, Abdul Majid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonaimuri police station said: “Police fired a few rounds of bullets in the air to tame the situation, but no one was bullet-injured.” 

“Police attacked me at OC’s order,” Khokon told Banglanews while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Apart from Khokon, 10-15 party people, as BNP claimed, were injured in the clashes.
