DHAKA: The death toll in Saturday’s gas leak fire at a house in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan rose to five as two more victims succumbed to their injuries at DMCH.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) In-Charge Sub-Inspector (SI) Bacchu Mia confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Afroza Akter Purnima, 30 and Dablu Molla, 33, succumbed to their injuries Tuesday (Oct 16) night and Wednesday (Oct 17) morning respectively, while undergoing treatment at the burn unit.
Afroza had 80 percent and Dablu had burn injuries to their bodies.
Afroza’s mother Sufia Begum, 50, lost her battle for life at the hospital Sunday (Oct 14) while two other victims died on the day of the fatal fire.
Eight members of the family received severe burn injuries as a fire originated from a gas line leakage on the ground floor of their three-storey house in Byapari Para area of Uttarkhan, around 4am Saturday (Oct 13).
On information, three units of Uttara Fire Service Station rushed to the scene and managed to douse the blaze.
Firefighters rescued the victims and took them to the burn unit of DMCH.
The victims were reported to survive burn injuries ranging from 6 percent to 99 percent to their bodies.
The family’s village home is in Gobindapur area under Bhangura upazila of Pabna district.
