DHAKA: The cabinet has approved the draft of Media Employee Act (conditions for employment), 2018 increasing facilities in job for journalists.

The cabinet in a regular meeting gave the approval while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in the chair on Monday (October 15).

Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the meeting, saying “Journalists will be considered as media professionals, not as workers. Annual leave and other facilities were extended under the law.

The government will be able to close down the media, including punishment of its owner in violation of the law.
