DHAKA: Police shot a suspected mugger while he, along with a fellow, was fleeing after snatching vanity bag of a woman in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi Monday (Sept 24) night.

Swapon, 47, the injured, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), following the incident.

Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC, Investigation) Parvez Islam Bhuiyan disclosed the matter to Banglanews Tuesday (Sept 25).

Swapon accompanying another mugger were fleeing the scene riding a motorcycle after snatching a woman’s bag near Abahani field, at the night.

They reached Dhanmondi-27 as police started to chase them.

Again they returned to Abahani filed area, being obstructed by the police.

At one stage, the duo fell off the bike after losing control as police continued the chasing.

Swapon attacked the law enforcers with a knife while his accomplice managed to flee, forcing police to retaliate with gunshots.

He sustained gunshots to both his legs.

The vanity bag, three mobile phones and a motorcycle were seized from the spot, said the OC.

Efforts are on to nab the other, the OC added.
