DHAKA: A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has busted a vehicle theft gang and arrested seven of its members after conducting several drives in Mirpur, Demra and Shampur areas of Dhaka on Wednesday night.

Law enforcers also seized a private car, a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw and eight stolen motorbikes from the gang’s possession.

The detainees are- Md. Lokman Hossain, 25, Md. Niamul Sharif, 25, Md. Sheikh Jamal, 22, Md. Abdur Rasid Mridha, 20, Md. Rabbi Sikder, 19, Md. Shah Alam, 52 and Md. Mahabub Sikder, 47.

DMP deputy commissioner (DC) Masudur Rahman said the ring had been stealing vehicles in different areas of Dhaka for quite some time now. The thieves also used to sell the stolen vehicles after creating fabricated documents of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) from another ring.

Based on information given the gang members, police now conducting drives to catch the ring that provides false BRTA documents for vehicles, the DC added.
