SATKHIRA: Three persons including two schoolgirls were killed in separate lighting strikes in Kaliganj and Assasuni upazila of Satkhira district on Wednesday afternoon (Sept 12).

The deceased were identified as Bilkis Khatun, 14, daughter of one Bilwal Kha of Saihati village in Kaliganj upazila, Moyna, 14, daughter of Akbar Sheikh of Champaful village and Taher Gazi, 30, son of Abu Box Gazi of Assasuni upazila.

Kaliganj police station officer-in-charge (OC) Hasan Hafizur Rahman told Banglanews the school girls were struck by lightning while heading to private tutor’s house. One of them died on the spot while the other one died on way to hospital. 

On the other hand, Assasuni’s Khajra union Parishad Chairman Shahnewaj Dalim told Banglanews that Taher Gazi, who is worker at a fish enclosure, died after being hit by lightning while returning home in rain.
