DHAKA: In a latest move, BIWTA has introduced an online system for issuing survey certificate for water vessels.

The vessel owners have to apply on the official website of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at first, to avail the certificates.

Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan launched the digital means of service, at a function held at BIWTA Headquarters in Dhaka’s Motijheel Wednesday (September 12). 

“The modernization works of the country’s waterways are being completed in phases. All adequate initiatives are being taken to ensure the passengers’ safety,” the minister told the function.

Shipping Department Director General Commodore Syed Ariful Islam presided over the function attended by Shipping Ministry Secretary Abdus Samad and Chief Engineer Md Manjurul Kabeer, among others.
