DHAKA: United Nations emphasizes that Rohingyas should be granted a safe return to Myanmar from Bangladesh without any force.

The UN says repatriation process must be begun voluntarily after ensuring safety in Rakhine state of Myanmar.

The UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric made this statement during a press briefing in New York on Tuesday (December 7).

He said Rohingya should go back to their homeland whenever they feel safe without using any force.

“I think the UN Secretary General is playing an important role in the plight and sufferings of Rohingyas existing between Myanmar and Bangladesh,” Stephane Dujarric added.

Earlier on the same day, UN human rights chief Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein expressed his concern over  hasty repatriation of Rohingyas in a Special Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
