AL leader shot dead in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: A local leader of ruling Awami League was shot to death by miscreants at Kashempur Hazampara in Sadar upazila on Monday (July 22).

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 45, vice-president of Agardari union unit Awami League and a resident of Kuchpukur village in the upazila.

District Awami League president Munsur Ahmed and general secretary Nazrul Islam visited the spot immediately after incident.

Agardari Union Awami League president Habibur Rahman said to Banglanews that Nazrul was returning home from Kadamtala Bazar riding a motorbike. When he reached Kashempur Hazampara, some miscreants riding another motorbike attacked him and shot targeting him around 11:30 am, leaving him dead on the spot.

Palash, son of the deceased, told Banglanews that his father had an enmity with former UP member Touhidul. He might have been killed by followers of Touhid member.

Iltutmish, acting superintendent of Satkhira Police, said on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Police have already started drive to arrest the killers.
