DHAKA: BNP Standing committee members on Friday (July 19) held a meeting at the Gulshan political office of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
The meeting started at 4:30pm.
Shairul Kabir Khan, press wing member to the BNP chief, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
The meeting was supposed to discuss about bringing out rallies in divisional cities demanding release of their convicted party chief Khaleda Zia, said sources.
Besides, the ongoing crisis of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal was also supposed to be discussed. There has been a long deadlock regarding the formation of a new committee of the student wing.
The first one of the pre-announced divisional rallies demanding release of the imprisoned BNP chairperson was held in Barishal on Thursday (July 18).
The second rally is scheduled to be held in Chattogram on Saturday (July 20) and in Khulna on Thursday (July 25). Party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address the rallies as the chief guest. Besides, Standing committee members and senior leaders will attend the rallies.
However, a source said that the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, from London, also joined the meeting through Skype.
