JAGANNATH UNIVERSITY (JnU): A correspondent to Jagannath University (JnU) and at least 14 students were injured as a clash erupted among two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus Monday (Feb 18).

The clash ensued over previous rivalry and establishing supremacy on the campus.

Witnesses said the followers of president Tarikul Islam and general secretary Sheikh Joynul Abedin Russel of BCL’s suspended unit at JnU took position on the campus since the morning.

Afterwards, chase and counter-chase ensued when some leaders and activists of BCL, who were protesting over forming a new committee by cancelling the old one, were entering the campus.

The injured includes general students too.

Daily Sangbad JnU Correspondent Rakib Islam survived an attack while observing his duty.

He was rescued by police and sent to a nearest hospital with injuries on head.

Contacted, Sheikh Joynul Abedin Russel said he wasn’t aware of what was happening on the campus. Tarikul Islam didn’t picked phone-calls.

However, additional police members were deployed on the campus to tame the situation.
