Action to be taken for helping Rohingyas get passports

DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said action will be taken against those involved in giving passports to the Rohingyas, who fled to Bangladesh facing atrocity in Rakhine state of Myanmar.

He said only the police are not involved with the passport fraudulence. It is associated with birth certificate, national identity card, chairman certificate and others. Their issue will also be taken into consideration.

The minister said this after the overall security meeting reentering the upcoming Durga Puja at the conference room of Home Ministry on Wednesday (September 18) 

The Home Minister said many organisations are involved in letting Rohingyas get passports. The persons concerned, including local chairman and the ward commissioner, will be held responsible for issuing necessary documents and police verification to help the refugees get passports. 

“We are taking action against those who are involved in these activities. I am taking measures to ensure that the Rohingya do not get a passport, he added.

He said that when the Rohingyas entered the country, eight lakh Rohingya had been biometric. Then another three million Rohingya arrived. A total of 11 lakh Rohingya are currently in Bangladesh. They have been identified. As a result, they are getting caught in the software when they tried to get passport.

'Yet those who have been very cleverly or tactfully working to issue passports to the Rohingya have been subjected to the law. If the police are involved, they will also be brought under the law. Legal action are also being taken against those who assisting Rohingyas to get passports. ”
