Pressure for safe Rohingya repatriation on: US envoy US Ambassador in Dhaka, Earl R Miller speaking to reports

KURIGRAM: US want voluntary, safe and sustainable return of Rohingyas to their homeland, said US envoy to Bangladesh Earl R Miller.

Myanmar is under constant pressure, Earl R Miller said while distributing relief materials at Natarkandi village under Chilmari upazila of Kurigram on Saturday (August 24).

Bangladesh, as Miller said, has opened its heart and border to over a million Rohingyas. The United States is also providing various types of assistance to the Rohingyas.

The way Bangladesh has shown generosity by giving shelter to Rohingyas is really commendable. The US government always stands by Bangladesh to help the Rohingyas, and will so, the ambassador also said.

Miller said already pressure has been put on many individuals of Myanmar security forces, including their army chief.  Pressure will be kept continuing on Myanmar.

Referring to the assistance for the flood-hit people, the US Ambassador said he had announced one lakh USD worth of assistance from the US government and its people. This assistance will be given to some 4,900 people of more than 1200 families, which will be implemented through Care Bangladesh.
