‘Yaba trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar 'gunfight'

COX’S BAZAR: A suspected yaba trader was killed in a 'gunfight' with police in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday (July 21).

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hosson, 39, son of Anu Miah of Hoaykong West Satghoria area.

Three police personnel – Assistant Sub Inspector of Teknaf Police Station Ohid Ullah, constables Sajib Sarker and Monir Hossian – were injured in the gunfight.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station told Banglanews that a team of police went to Hoaykong West Satghoria village to nab drug traders in early hours.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire, forcing them to retaliate starting a “gunfight”, he added.

At one point, the drug peddlers fled the scene leaving bullet-hit Hosson on the spot, he said.

Hosson was rushed to the local health complex. Later, he died on way to Sadar Hospital.
