Detergent, antibiotics found in pasteurized milk

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Researchers have found traces of detergent and antibiotics in pasteurized milk produced by Pran, MilK Vita, Igloo, Aarong, Farm Fresh, Igloo Chocolate and Igloo Mango.

Prof ABM Faruque, director of Biomedical Research Centre, briefed media at Dhaka University on Tuesday (June 25).

Dhaka University’s Pharmacy Faculty and Biomedical Research Centre jointly conducted the tests.

Three samples of non-pasteurized raw milk were collected from city’s Palashi, Gabtoli, and Mohammadpur Bazar.

Prof ABM Faruque said: “The results we have given are results of samples. It does not mean that all the products of those companies are like that.  We would die if antibiotic is used in this way. If this antibiotic is fed a cow and we consume meat and milk of that cow, the antibiotic will enter our body. So, to save humans, now stop feeding cows this antibiotic.”

Saying that presence of antibiotic in milk is a matter of grave concern, he said in our test of seven samples of pasteurized milk,  the presence of antibiotics like-  that is used in human treatment- levofloxicin, ciprofloxacin and azithromycin  are found.  Detergent is also found in another one.
