3 ‘human traffickers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Cox’s Bazar: Three alleged human traffickers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Teknaf upazila early Tuesday (June 25).

The deceased were identified as Korban Ali, 30, son of Abdus Shukur and a resident of Sabrang Noyapara and Abdur Rahman, 30, son of Sultan Ahammad hailed from same area of Teknaf upazila.

Police claimed that three of its officials were also injured in the gunfight. 

All three were fugitive accused in a case filed over human trafficking.

Tipped-off, a team of police conducted a raid in Moheshkhalia para ghat area of the upazila around 2:45am to arrest the trio, Pradip Kumar Das, Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, told Banglanews.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the traffickers opened fire on them prompting police to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”, the OC added.

The youths were caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet wounds.

Later, the injured were taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead 

Three locally made guns, 15 bullets and 20 cartridges were recovered from the scene.
